In the first Resident Evil game, it was discovered that Umbrella Inc's genetic experiments also included marine life. The creature designated FI-3 Neptune is a great white shark injected with the mutagenic T-virus to determine its potential as a B.O.W.. The results were disappointing: their strength increase was minimal and, while the virus adapted the sharks to survive in fresh water, they were still useless on dry land. The Neptune project was abandoned and only a few specimens were left in Umbrella's Arklay research facility. Those specimens were destroyed along with the facility itself.
