Hopping Metroids are mutant creatures that appear in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. They are a bizarre hybrid of Metroid and Hopper heavily mutated by Phazon. It is unknown exactly how this mutation occurred. These Metroids do not fly like other Metroid types, instead walking on four spindly legs. When enemies approach, they will leap toward them and slash at them with their razor-sharp forelegs or spit globules of acidic venom. They are also capable of generating small Phazon shockwaves.
