Charizard

Charizard is a dual-type Fire/Flying Pokémon. The evolved form of Charmeleon, Charizard grows significantly in size upon evolving and grows a pair of large wings that allow it to fly. While it looks and acts much like the dragons of legend, Charizard is not a Dragon-type Pokémon.

Pokédex Data[]

Relishing battle, Charizard always seeks out strong opponents to fight. They can be quite choosy about the fights they pick and some Charizard are known to disobey their Trainers and refuse to fight if they consider an opponent too weak or otherwise unworthy of fighting.

As Charizard gains experience, its fiery breath becomes hotter and hotter. Its breath has even been known to melt solid rock. Its wings allow it to fly at great speeds and it can reach heights surpassing 4,500 feet.

Special Abilities[]

Below is a list of some of the abilities commonly used by Charizard.

  • Flamethrower - Charizard's flaming breath can reduce just about anything to ashes in seconds.
  • Fly - Charizard soars high into the sky and then comes shooting down like a comet to collide with the opponent.
  • Rage - Charizard becomes angrier the more damage it takes, eventually retaliating with all of its fury.
  • Inferno - An intense blast of fire that deals heavy damage and always leaves the enemy Pokémon with a burning affliction.
  • Fire Blast - A blast of fire that takes the shape of the Japanese symbol for fire.
  • Dragon Claw -Powerful claw of a dragon that inflicts heavy damage.

Mega Evolution[]

In Pokémon X/Y, Charizard can be transformed into one of two different Mega forms in the middle of battle.

Mega Charizard X[]

Charizard-Mega X

Mega Charizard X looks significantly different from a standard Charizard. Its normally-orange scales turn black and its belly scales turn blue. It grows a pair of horn-like protrusions out of each shoulder and the flame on its tail burns a dazzling blue.

The Mega Evolution is temporary and only occurs during battle if the Trainer is carrying a Mega Ring and the Charizard holds Charizardite X.

Mega Charizard Y[]

Charizard-Mega Y

Mega Charizard Y retains the same colours as a normal Charizard, but grows an additional horn atop its head and a small wing on each arm. It also grows several spines along its tail.

Charizard evolves into its Y Mega Form while holding Charizardite Y.
