The Sphynx is a hybrid creature depicted with a the body of a lion and the head of a man. They usually stand guard at the tombs of dead kings, most note worthy of these being the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. Other known Sphynx also exist in other ancient civilizations such as Babylonia.
